After the crucifixion, Joseph of Arimathea received permission to bury Jesus' body. He laid the body in a new tomb (Matt. 27:57-60; Mark 15:42-46; Luke 23:50-53; John 19:38-42). This Joseph was wealthy (Matt. 27:57), a member of the Sanhedrin (Mark 15:43), and a secret disciple of Jesus (Matt. 27:57; John 19:38).
